The Project:
UK Piers Limited run two hotels in Skegness, and approached Eaga to install loft insulation to two of its well known hotels based in the heart of Skegness. The North Shore Hotel, with its 36 rooms is the closest hotel in Skegness to the sea with its unrivalled position, enjoying clear views of North Shore beach. The Vine Hotel is situated five minutes from Skegness town centre, this character hotel dates back to 1772 and provides comfortable accommodation for its guests.
UK Piers considers responsible environmental activity good for both business and the community. With a steep increase in energy costs , UK piers approached Eaga to carry out some simply measures to significantly improve the energy efficiency of its two Skegness hotels. Following a survey carried out by Eaga, it was identified that the most cost effective way to reduce their energy costs and carbon emissions of their buildings was by installing loft insulation in the roof space. By installing loft insulation to the recommended thickness of 270 mm the hotels can expect to see savings of hundreds of pounds per year on their energy bills and reduced carbon emissions.
The North Shore hotel already had some loft insulation; however, it was still below the recommended standard and therefore needed to be topped up with 200 mm of additional insulation. The Vine hotel had no existing loft insulation; therefore we installed 300mm of insulation, which would help to reduce the amount of heat lost through the roof. The work for each hotel only took a couple of days to complete - with very little disturbance to the guests and residents.
In addition to the loft, Eaga also added insulation to the water pipes and the tanks, this will act as a measure to keep the water hotter for longer by reducing the amount of heat that escapes.
Andrew Livesley, Manager, UK Pier said, "We are really impressed by the environmental measures that have been installed. It shows what can be done to help the environment and will help us save money on our heating bills at the same time as it will help make the hotels more comfortable for our guests."
