External Wall Insulation
Here at eaga Insulation, we have our own in-house manufacturer of external wall insulation systems; PermaRock, who design and manufacturers a range of specialist render systems tailored towards application onto new buildings.
External wall insulation is a technology developed to improve the thermal performance of buildings by the application of an insulating layer and a decorative weatherproof finish applied to the external wall surfaces of a building.
The application of an External Wall Insulation system has a number of positive benefits:-
- Improved insulation levels lead to a reduction in heat losses and therefore to a reduced energy demand for heating in the winter months.
- Higher levels of insulation help to reduce building overheating in the summer months, thereby reducing the energy demand for cooling.
- Reduced energy demands result in lower CO2 emissions.
- Interstitial or internal condensation on walls can be eliminated, and the attendant problems of damp internal surfaces and mould growth are overcome.
- The building fabric can be protected against the effects of the weather by the insulated cladding.
- The building structure is protected from daily environmental temperature changes. Fluctuations in internal temperatures are reduced, leading to more comfortable living and working conditions.
Sustainability
With the increased importance being placed on more sustainable products, the use of PermaRock external wall insulation (ewi) systems can help towards the creation of effective and efficient sustainable new and existing buildings.
PermaRock external wall insulation systems can help contribute to a more sustainable building solution through the following:-
- Many of PermaRock's ewi systems are CFC and HCFC free and do not employ ozone depleting chemicals in their manufacture: with the insulation having zero ozone depletion potential (zero-ODP) and zero global warming potential (GWP).
- PermaRock's Mineral Fibre external wall insulation system is classified with an "A" rating in the current BRE "Green Guide to Specification" and can help contribute to a high BREEAM points score.
- In the BRE publication, "The Green Guide to Housing Specification", BR390, 2000, Mineral Fibre insulation with a density of 150 kg/m3 or less, (i.e.PermaRock mineral fibre insulation), is given a Summary Rating of A. Furthermore, polymer modified cementitious render systems on Mineral Fibre insulation, (i.e. the i.e. PermaRock mineral fibre insulation system), are given a Summary Rating of A.
- PermaRock systems are included on the BRE website, www.greenbooklive.com, an online database designed to help specifiers and end users identify products and services that can help to reduce their impact on the environment.
- PermaRock systems are also listed on the EST site, www.energysavingtrust.org.uk, confirming that PermaRock systems are among the most energy efficient in their category, helping reduce energy costs and preventing climate change.
